How We Operate
The Underdog Fund is a 501-c3 non-profit foundation established via the Veterinary Care Foundation (tax ID number 26-1074767) by the staff at Tacoma Animal Hospital. We operate using donations and grant funding.
-
When a pet needs emergency or life-saving care that their family cannot afford, The Underdog Fund steps in:
Case Identification: Our veterinary team identifies cases where financial barriers are the only obstacle to receiving essential care.
Nomination Process: Qualifying cases are nominated by our hospital staff to our board for review, with priority given to treatments that will significantly improve quality of life or save a pet's life.
Decision-Making: Our board evaluates each case quickly to ensure care isn't delayed when time is critical.
Fund Allocation: If approved, financial assistance is applied directly to the cost of treatment, allowing care to proceed immediately.
Follow-Up Support: We maintain contact with families to ensure successful recovery and provide any additional resources needed.
-
Beyond our clinic walls, The Underdog Fund extends care to the most vulnerable members of our community:
Shelter Partnerships: We collaborate with local animal shelters to provide medical services for pets awaiting adoption, improving their chances of finding forever homes.
Homeless Pet Support: Through partnerships with homeless service organizations, we offer veterinary care for pets of individuals experiencing homelessness, both through scheduled outreach events and walk-in appointments coordinated through shelters.
Educational Initiatives: We conduct workshops and information sessions for community members on preventative care, early disease detection, and available resources for pet owners in need.
